《白银帝国》描写的山西票号“天成元”堪称清代的全国“金融大鳄”，它掌控全国金融，兼营存放款，生意鼎盛时拥有中国各地以及俄国、蒙古、日本及南洋的二十三个分号，富可敌国。本片的主轴正是“天成元”这一商业帝国两代之间的传承故事。除了纠缠父子二人与一奇女子的三角恋情之外，更是借此传承过程表现中国两大思想体系－－法家与儒家的义理之争。在影片中，又通过对绑匪横行、八国联军、辛亥革命等一系列历史事件的背景展示，凸显出“商人重义”这一晋商不同于其它的仁义精神。。In 2016 filmmaker/photographer Pete McBride and writer Kevin Fedarko set out on a 750-mile journey on foot through the entire length of the Grand Canyon.
